• Low priced items can add up to make big profits - You should never overlook the lower priced item’s that are selling on ebay, do some ebay research & find low priced items that are selling well. Then all you need to do is find some similar items that you can get cheap in bulk, & imitate exactly what the successful sellers are doing, & you’ll be sure to see some profit if you do it right.

I’ve not given any selling tips for a while, so from now on I’m going to try & make a regular thing of it. Here is part 1 of my selling tips for May:

• Don’t limit your listings to the auction format, sure it’s cool to have some listings in auction format, but I have always found I get much better results & more sales selling in the ‘Buy Now’ format. Of course this depends on what you are selling, for instance,  if you are just selling a one off item, & something that is second hand then the auction format would probably be best. But if you have a large volume of identical items to sell then listing the majority of  them as ‘Buy now’, would  in most cases be best in my opinion, it would also be cheaper too.

• If you are listing quite a lot of  ‘Buy Now’ listings every week, you should consider opening an eBay shop. Opening an eBay shop will reduce your listing fees, & allow you to benefit from listing more items per ‘Buy Now’ listing, & you’ll also be able to run your listing for a lot longer period of time than with regular eBay listings.

• Use eBay’s free bulk listing tool, Turbo Lister, you can save your listings on your PC with this, & upload your listings in half the time.

• Always let potential buyers know that you are happy to answer any questions they might have about the item you are selling. When answering any questions do your best to answer in a polite & timely manner, if you leave them waiting for an answer for too long you could end up losing a sale.

• Remember to do market research on similar items to which you are selling, or to get ideas on what to sell, you can do all of this using eBay’s search function. Look at completed listings & see what type of items are doing well, when you find a seller that is making a lot of sales, scrutinise their listings, everything from the advert layout, listing title, colours used, font type used, did they use any enhancements like audio  or video in their listing? All these seemingly small things can make all the difference to wether your listing will convert well or not.

Latest eBay site changes, as quoted on ebay.co.uk:

In November 2006 we made bidder IDs anonymous on listings. This change has been very successful; research we conducted in 2007 showed a 90% reduction in fake second chance offers and other malicious emails.

To bring eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie in line with other global eBay sites, and to increase security for sellers, we will be going one step further and extending anonymous User IDs to winning bidders as well.

This change will be implemented this week.

As always, the following information will still be accessible:

• Sellers will be able to view all bidder IDs on their listings
• All members can click on the bidder ID and view the bidder’s Bid History page, which will detail the categories in which they’ve bid over the past 30 days.
• Feedback pages will show the same information as now – buyers and seller IDs, with comments visible to all.
